FIRE SEASON: BECK HELICOPTERS’ HUEY TO REMAIN IN CHRISTCHURCH

The past few weeks have seen the two Huey Beck Helicopter become well known to residents of Christchurch’s Port Hills after they came in to help battle the fire in the Port Hills.

Widely associated with the Vietnam War, the Beck helicopter choppers is currently being used by the duo of Alan Beck, owner of Eltham’s Beck Helicopters and Richie McCaw, former All Blacks Rugby player.

The fire went on to scorch no less than 2000 hectares before finally being contained. However, Beck believes that the area is still not yet totally out of danger. As such, the well-known Taranaki flying ace has been drafted to remain on standby in Christchurch, while Beck will loan out one of his company’s Hueys to the Christchurch Helicopters, until the fire season comes to an end.

The chopper, which adorns the white, red and black colours has been renamed “Excalibur” after the famous bat used by cricketer Lance Cairns. Continue reading

Richie McCaw To Get A Replacement Soon

There are certain names that are legendary like Richie McCaw who was the former captain of the All Blacks team.

Last summer he was instrumental in helping his team win the World Cup. Sam Cane was seen to be following in his heels who are found to be a carbon copy of the captain in many ways. Now it seems that Sam Cane might just be right to take up Richie McCaw’s position in the team.

There is a lot of fanfare that follows Richie wherever he goes. That is understandable as the captain of a legendary superpower rugby team is sure to command such an effect. Steve Hansen had a large duty at hand when he had to handle several retirements at one go. The most difficult one is to find a replacement for Richie McCaw. The captain of the All Blacks team is a position that is difficult to fill, especially when the role had been successfully carried out by Richie who has gained considerable fame for his skills and leadership on the field. McCaw has been with the team for 14 years, a feat that is rare when transfers are common and players look out for their careers individually than stay committed to a team. He was captain for the team for ten seasons. He even won Player of the Year award in World Rugby three times. He has been instrumental for the victories that All Blacks team has sustained in the world Rugby Cup tournaments.
