As Mike Ford gets ready to lead his team out onto the field against Gloucester Rugby on Friday night, he knows there are more than just full points on stake for Bath Rugby. The right hand man for Gary Gold, the Director of Rugby, believes that this is the most important match of the season so far for the club and not only is full points at stake, but so are pride and the bragging rights, which, only a win against Gloucester will earn them.
According to Ford, the match is more than just another Premiership game for the club, they want to have the bragging rights in the West Country and the only way to achieve that is to win the derby and break their hoodoo at Kingsholm. Bath Rugby have not a Premiership match at their neighbors since the 2005/06 season and over the last two seasons, their arch rivals have made the double over them, which has bound to hurt any self respecting Bath fan.
Ford has hinted that his side will go for at least four points from the match, even if they cannot secure the full points. The former England international stated that the coaching staff and the fans see the game as the biggest of the season and it needs to be instilled in the players as well. He also mentioned that the fans of both clubs have every right to be pumped up about the match, and having played in the fierce Wigan v/s St. Helen derby in the Rugby League, he knows all about the feeling.
Ford also added that Gloucester will have the advantage, playing at home, and will play passionately but what Bath Rugby can do is be more passionate than their hosts and try and secure a famous victory for the fans.
